Hello
Did anybody try to scan with LEICA HDS6000 upside down ?
My goal here would be to perform scans of ground and underground area.
Is there a risk to damage HDS6000 ?
Do you know mount systems adapted to these needs ?
Olivier

Re: scanning with HDS6000 upside down
I've seen it done with Faro LS Scanners, but not the Leica. If I remember correctly, there are some issues with the bearings in the horizontal motion. The LS uses mechanical bearings while the Leica/Z+F are a ceramic bearing. The issue is how the dead load of the scanner is distributed when inverted. Can the bearings carry a tensile load when the scanner is inverted.
Do not attempt with the standard tribrach issued with the Leica scanner. It can not bear the weight of a 6000 when inverted.

Hi Olivier,
It is possible to scan upside down with the Z+F IMAGER 5006(i) or the HDS 6000.
You should use the special uside down plate for such an aplication.
Don´t use the normal tribrach.
Z+F has also a special upside down tripod. (see pictures below)
With this tripod it is possible to make scans about 3m undergroud.

Is the upside down plate available for purchase from Z+F or is a drawing/specification that must be fabricated by a 3rd party?

Hi christopherbyrne18
Real long shot as I know this post was 9 years ago but do you have info on that HDS6000 upside down kit from a 3rd party you mention in this thread?
I am using a Z+F 5010C which has the same connection points.
I see your link has expired - no wonder after 9 years!!
Please let me know.
Lee
