Re: iSTAR® the world’s first automatic 360º camera launched
Hey all
This thing looks like it will be helpful, I am sick of the time takes to apply images to phase based scan data. I just have a question...
When we started using the nodal ninja we didn't have the focal point of the camera mounted directly over the scanners laser measuring point (it was out by a few milimeters). The images would stitch in PTGUI make a panorama/cubemap, but when we applied them to the cloud data the parrallax casue by the incorrect mounting caused the colour to be out by a litte bit, so edges of walls ended up on floors etc. The specs say there are four cameras with a focal length of 14mm, how are they correcting to the laser scaner mount point? I discussed the afore mentioned problem with our photogrammeterist to see if we could fix our images but we would need to know the distance to all the objects in the photo.
Can anyone shed some light on this or are we going to take the view of the guy who invented the camera mount for the Leica C10... "Well it's only a little bit wrong in some areas.. does it really matter".... I would say yes.
Cheers
Phill

Hi Phill
Has anyone answered your question? I had the same problem when setting up my samyang fisheye lens, a couple of mms offset in the cameras position and I was unable to stitch the cube images successfully to the point cloud. It would be very interesting to hear how this technical problem has been addressed.

No, haven't heard anything, sounds like there are a few people buying them though so I'm guessing the results will come out soon enough.
Cheers

Has anyone used this yet? Also, does anyone know if it is available to hire in the UK?

I think SCCS have ordered one, but not sure if they have taken delivery yet.

Still nobody here has used the camera for real projects?
Photos from their official website sample gallery don't look very impressive - low pixel resolution, too much noise and colors are not very accurate.

I think you still need to create your cube maps and apply them manually in Cyclone
