Re: FARO new reseller for PointCab software
PointCab is one of the software products I'm interested in purchasing along with the FARO Focus scanner. My shopping list is growing (new computer, scanner, software (Autocad11), external drives, target spheres etc.) so I'm reluctant to waste limited resources in a still shaky economy. It would be valuable to hear from users which software tools are the most productive/useful. I don't expect a bundled software package from FARO, but it would help get me started. As is often the case -the "free" evaluation downloads are lacking the very elements that make the software valuable. Comparing apples to oranges is perhaps the most difficult aspect to enter the LiDAR world. This forum is very useful.

Re: FARO new reseller for PointCab software
Dear all.
The problem with bundling software and scanner hardware is, that the fields of applications for a laser scanner are so versatile. In the end, there would always be a set of customers who would have to pay for software they are not using.
Even in the same industry, people are working differently. This means, software which works for you and your workflow may not neccessarily work for your colleague.
Our philosophy is to offer various software solutions for as many applications as possible. To do so, we are very open in partnering with software makers and providing them with simple interfaces to our data.
But in the end it is up to you (with some consulting, i.e. from this forum or our experts) to decide which is the best tool for your task and workflow.
Best regards,
Oliver Bürkler

Re: FARO new reseller for PointCab software
Hi,
I totally agree with Oliver! We at LSE are also suprised about the variety of possibilites for an application of PointCab.
For example
Preservation of buildings and monuments: http://www.laserscanning-europe.com/en/ ... l-building
Mining industry and tunnel construction:http://www.laserscanning-europe.com/en/ ... tone-plant
Chemistry and process industry:http://www.laserscanning-europe.com/de/ ... ngsplanung
Public service corporations:http://www.laserscanning-europe.com/en/ ... r-industry
Design and planning of factory buildings and digital factory: http://www.laserscanning-europe.com/en/ ... yout-study
and many many more (you can look up some more user stories at http://www.laserscanning-europe.com/en/ ... er-stories)
We can only suggest that you try PointCab to see if it suits your application area. Every client can order specific data examples and order a free live presentation via teamviewer.
Kind Regards,
Armin

Now that's the clue, because the PointCab trial version is fully functional and allows you to run every operation for at least 15 hours.Scott wrote: As is often the case -the "free" evaluation downloads are lacking the very elements that make the software valuable.
