You don’t need targets to create constraints for every scan, but you will need targets.
Uses include putting data on known site coordinates, making scanning coordinates repeatable, and as a quality assurance check against total station control.
In the case of scanners without survey grade compensators/imu’s again total station + targets to level data.

If you need the replacement loaner agreement, which is typically an addon in addition to the basic calibration maintenance agreement, make sure to read the fine-print carefully. I'd make sure it's an actual SLA type agreement, i.e. something along the lines of "We will provide a loaner scanner for the duration of the service period or refund $Y amount of the loaner agreement cost." NOT "We will make our best-effort to provide a loaner scanner."

There are many things to consider, i personally like the light weight of the Faro S and the quality of the scans, it can be carried on an airplane as a carry on, also Scene is a wonderful software and Faro updates it regularly and keep on adding more features.

My opinion is the following:
Find a small site that is near to your office and call all companies to scan (6-7 scan positions) and then process the data with their software.
Calculate field time and oficce time for processing and also the support that they offer.
Then check the quality of data, easy to use and other things.
Remember you will spent a lot of money one time!

No targets and c2c registration works really well in certain places.
If you are scanning sites similar to what comes up on this google images search (link https://tinyurl.com/yxqskes4 ) then you will need plenty of targets to keep the accuracy up. Almost anything can be registered in Cyclone using C2C but you can slowly drift off depending on the site and scanner! Targets also allow the site to be split up a lot easier if its huge!
Just remember demos of 10 to 20 scans will always work/register perfectly!

After using mainly leica for the last 7 years (Mainly P40, P20 and the RTC360 when it came out along with the BLK) I can say they are great pieces of kit. The P40 is very good with accuracy and quality, the RTC is great for speed but not necessarily accuracy. And the BLK is really for small projects that dont need to be very accurate. They all have different uses so you really need to weigh up what you need it for.
That being said I am about to purchase a new scanner in the UK and am going for the Faro S70, it suits me for the type of work im doing. And it covers all the areas that I need it to do.
The best thing is maybe rent each one first and discover which one you find the most comfortable to use, in terms of site work and processing back in the office.

Hello!
We have the FARO FOCUS S70 and use it, here in Brazil, to scan industries, constructions and builds. I'm very happy with the scanner, SCENE and all the results.
We have contracted the FARO warranty. It works and is a must. The calibration or maintenance are made in the US.
We can do some scan works here for you.
Roberto
