BLK360 - here's what you are in for.....

Post by Felix_the_Cat »

So I will let pictures tell most of the story.

I am sitting in a hotel room after scanning shipboard all day.

I wouldn't dream of using the BLK for anything important, but it does fit into small places and we have been using it to fill holes here and there.

18 setups, high with HDR. About 20 fit on the scanner at this resolution.

I missed a few pics because I was pi**ed off.

It's been many HOURS and I'm only ten scans in. Sometimes things go smoothly for a bit. Usually it's like this though. Most of the time you cannot download enough files off the thing to empty it to use it the next day.

And, luckily I have a bunch of batteries, and one of these:

BTW this is on a clean laptop barebones install. This is the laptops only purpose. I have no other wifi issues, or odd problems of any kind.

So, I think he point is: plan accordingly.

Cmon Leica. Open up the damn USB C port. Enough of this crap already.

Hey Felix -
I feel your pain. :While i know little about the BLK other than what i've read on the forum here, your problems may be on account of hotel WiFi. Apparently there is ongoing litigation about some hotels (illegally) interupting wifi connections to push guests to their own signals. I think its an FCC matter being investigated. There was an article about it somewhere recently Google might find. Even LSF maybe?

Before you send the BLK to Davey Jones' Locker, you may want to try all this from a known WiFi environment.

Just a suggestion in hopes it salvages your data... Good luck.

Felix, we had these same issues in our County Wifi public area and in the urban DC area with our BLK.
All settings for Wifi on the Laptop should be set to NOT automatically connect. Not sure whether that is your issue. but a frersh install usually defaults to automatically connect and any other wif in the area (including hotspots in the next room) might break the connection if it tries to jump off in the middle of a download.
You are right though- they NEED to DITCH the wifi connection or ADD the USB C download

I've been told this isn't going to happen.

We were under the impression it was going to happen when we bought ours. Feels a bit like buying a car and being told that at some point you will be able to change into the 5th and 6th gears. Then instead of it happening you are told that the manufacturer simply wants people to drive slower in lower gear.

Gotta be honest here, it took me a couple of days of stewing but I grudgingly have to admit there might be something to this, or something to something about the hotel wifi environment and maybe I'm laying a little too hard on the hardware.

I really didn't want to post this because it makes me seem perhaps a little foolish.

But I read this and knowing Mr. Reed to be of sound mind I took a chance and put a laptop and scanner in the car and drove across the mall parking lot until I was wifiless on my phone.

I parked and I'll be damned if it didn't download the last 7 scans without a hitch. In the back seat of a rental car.

So I did it Monday night too. Just pulled over in a dirt parking lot on the way back to the hotel with a sack of ratburgers and let them go. 21 and 20 scans d/l without any issues. Simultaneously, in a big pile in the back seat. I even plugged into the inverter to hot swap laptop batteries without any problems.

Well.

One problem.

If I could just PLUG IN a $&@&@" cable I could download my scans in five minutes and I wouldn't have to sit in my damn rental car in the middle of the woods for 90 minutes burning audible credits and cursing the folks who thought this was a good idea.

One day I hope to have the privilege of meeting this character Felix (the-cat). Sure seems like a fun one to have a beer with! :)

Glad it worked out. I hope the rat-burgers and Audible programming made it a little less painful than it otherwise would have been...
