Weird Shapped from a scanned object

Post by Haowyr »

Hello guys,

I am facing a weird fact, as you can see on the image below:

Image

As you can see on the right part of the image, the object scanned is an isolateur with cable almost vertical. This first image is extracted from a close station and is correct.
On the other hand, the left part of the image shows the same object, scanned from a more distant scan station. As you can see, the cable takes a weird shape, almost parallel to the isolator, which doesn't make any sense to me.

Has anyone ever faced this type of things? Could it be coming from a reflection from the isolator (which is partly made of glass). FYI, I a m using a P40 scan.

Thanks in advance for your replies ;)

Well, from Canton, Ohio it looks like an alignment issue. Perhaps your second more distant scan is not aligned well with the first closer scan.

Hey,

https://postimg.org/image/mj3u5j8tb/

I thought of allignement issue, but I checked it several times and it has nothing to do with it. As you can see on the next image, eventhough the alignement is not perfect, the "left" part of the isolator in the red station is alligned with others scan worlds.
This thing is all coming from the cable/reflection from the isolator, in my humble opinion.

At a greater distance the footprint of the laser will be larger. This means that a smaller object such as the wire will not be scanned as accurately.
If you don't see that there is nothing, then you are kidding yourself.

Oh ok you mean the divergence of the beam would create a mean between the actual distance of the cable and the isolator so it would have the same shape? Makes sense...
Thanks Matt :)
