External Power Pack for DPi8?

Post by JLarson »

Does anyone know of an external power cell for Android tablets that would also allow the DPi8's sensor to be connected? We find that the power gets run down rather quickly and it would be good to have an additional power cell to boost the life.

Hi Jason,

We looked into this. The short answer is that some custom USB circuitry is required to allow the tablet to both charge and run Phi.3D simultaneously. Panoscan has developed this for the PointGun which is based on the DotProduct DPI-8.

Another choice is to purchase a backup NVIDIA Shield and mirror the calibration, license and application files onto the backup. This is a simple copy and paste of 3 files and we're happy to show you how. The backup tablet costs about $199 from NVIDIA direct. We have a very large Navy shipbuilder customer who has a fleet of DPI-8s which they use for shipcheck around the world. They capture data around the clock: one tablet is working while the backup is charging.
