Yes you can throw out spheres and register.

We have done some accuracy testing with the zeb vs faro vs p20 that I hope we can post shortly.

Is it possible to set 2 targets along a stretch of road measure this one-way on foot or is it always needed to close loops?
Measure the targets afterwards with total station to implement it in a larger measurement.

I have a very large project coming up where this would be handy.

As the ZEB Revo uses SLAM for positioning it is still necessary to close the loop, however in a feature rich environment you could happily survey for 30mins before you need to close the loop. Below is a quick street scene I captured in under 10mins in Poland the other week.

In terms of geo-referencing this can be achieved using sphere targets or known features visible in the data.

Sure can.
The data exports as las (actually first off in compact laz), then there are a few options for moving to lossless conversion. I just worked with a client to streamline e57 as an integrated workflow. The usual suspects of software for modeling all snack on these point clouds. :)

Contact me for some sample data sets and workflow perspective if you like. 'Cause my applications engineer isn't in the office. He is 600m down a near arctic mine, happily scanning pointclouds to chuck in 3DR as a demo.

I'm interested in some data, colorized and b/w.
Are the spheres recognized in the software from Geoslam or must this be done in Scene? Same with georeferencing?
Is the software with credits the only processing method?

Hi Lieven,

We spoke on the phone on Friday, nice to see you on here as well!

If you like, I can send you the link to our sample datasets, then you can download and view them yourself? I will do this by email.

We carry out the georeferencing in CloudCompare, once we have downloaded and processed the data. We are actually in the process of producing an informative video about how we do this.

Finally, with regards to the processing, there are 2 options:

First option is the Cloud processing, where the customer is provided with an Uploader account and files are uploaded and processed via an internet connection. The processed data can then be purchased using 'credits'. Using this method you only pay for what you scan (pay as you go).

The second option is the GeoSlam Desktop, this is the local processing solution. This works by the customer processing the data locally (on their own computer), so no internet connection is needed. This means data can be processed out in the field, immediately after a scan. This works using a security dongle which is purchased outright. This is a one-time, upfront payment, allowing you to process unlimited data.

Hope this information is useful to you. Please feel free to email me directly if you want more help/advice.

What are some of the options/processes for applying color to the scan data?

Hi,

Can you add photos to these scans?

I've asked the same question...nothing that I know of that runs with the system but you could apply photos later (which is a tedious process). I am hoping to see some of the GeoSlam people at SPAR and would like to impress upon them the need for photos, especially since they don't capture intensity.

Hi, As stated at the moment we do not offer a camera solution to capture imagery simultaneously to the LIDAR data. It is however possible to do this as a post process (in several software 3rd party packages) from separately captured imagery if RGB is required. We have considered this as it is a request we receive often however my question would be what is more important;

- To simultaneously capture imagery for contextual purposes i.e. localised such that the imagery can be reviewed alongside the point cloud data as a reference to aid feature extraction
- To capture imagery that can be fully registered to the point cloud to produce RGB

We get mixed responses, sometimes it is difficult to see the real value of full RGB?

I the absence of intensity or RGB we always recommend using a shade display which really helps in identifying small features or detail.
