GeoSlam external registration

Post by blazaj » Thu Jun 30, 2016 2:11 pm

Hello guys,

is it possible to register GeoSLam scans outside its own software? Is it for example possible to import to Faro Scene or any other registration software? Many thanks for your suggestions

Jiri

It is possible to cloud to cloud the data from GeoSLAM via cloud to cloud. There is no inclinometer, altimeter, compass or GPS so getting the GeoSLAM into the right position isn't easy. The registration isn't too bad if you do just one section of the project, but I would imagine if you used GeoSLAM for loop closure (ie a long hallway with FARO scans at each end of the hallway) that you would have a difficult time getting the GeoSLAM scan to line up on both sides. That being said the accuracy of registration should depend on the accuracy of the device--in acsending order of accuracy: Zeb-1, Zeb-REVO, SurphSLAM.

If you are having trouble extracting the point from SLAM, try bringing it into CloudCompare and exporting as e57.

Thank you Caleb,
I'll see what I can do. Will try to import couple scans in E57 and c2c together. It supposedly is Zeb 1 data, Im not expecting miracles.

Jiri
