Test with Zeb1

Post by landmeterbeuckx » Tue Apr 19, 2016 2:28 pm

Hi,
I've rented a zeb1 to do an indoor scan tomorrow off 6 ancient separate buildings. I've looked at the videos (open all doors upfront, walk slowly in doorways,...) from the Geoslam youtube channel.

Do you guys have any other advice to make this test successfull? The data indoors is to be used to calculate room volumes and basic 2d drawings (in pointcab).

Greetings,
Lieven

Hi Lieven,

This reply may be a little late for your scanning today, but you should have all the information you need in the User Guide, which comes with the kit.

Good that you've seen the videos, they contain the important advice that you need. Like you, walking slowly when transitioning through doorways (into new environments) is best practice. If you are scanning long, featureless corridors we recommend introducing some features (such as chairs, boxes, etc) to 'break up' the repetitive nature of the space. We also recommend nodding the scanner head sideways as opposed to back to front in corridors.

You also need to close the loop, returning to where you started the scan from.

If you follow this best practice guidance you should get some great quality scans. Please feel free to let me know how you get on!

Happy Scanning
Stuart

Hi,
Scanning went fine. Fortunaly nobody saw me scanning, it's an unusual sight :-)

I scanned in total for 1.5 hours (indoors only). The weight off the zeb1 is a bit getting used to but it's tiny and the rucksack caused no disruption.

I had to call Bas at Leap3d for a few questions but no problems at all.
Everything is already processed (total 0,5h) and is looking ok in pointcab. See attached pictures off one off the buildings (this one tooke me 0,5h to scan)

I still have a few credits left so maybe i'll do some more testing and am looking forward to see the Revo in action in London.

A geoslam device has come up high on the list of new equipment purchases:-)

Jason you can't yet use control. You can do a global shift (like aligning an entire cloud to GPS cords), but not a global adjustment in the way you would do with individual scans.

Heard they have the ability to do this though. If they do, that is a major breakthrough.

Maybe Stuart can comment on this, it would be a great feature.
