qAnimation plugin test

Post by laurent »

Hi all,

a link to a test video with the qAnimation plugin in Cloud Compare. The video is 1080p 60fps on Youtube and the result is quite nice.

HI Laurent,

Do you have any information on how you can set the resolution of the video? Also, the quality?

Thanks,

Eugene

Hello Eugene,

you can set the number of frame per second (fps) as well as the bitrate. I used 60fps with a bitrate of 40 000 000. It is probably too much, but this allows a very good quality. Also, in youtube, you can force it to be in 60fps so it looks more fluent.

Hi Laurent,

I have tried both settings, but I don't see how that helps the resolution? In my attempts to change the bit rate, I did not see any big changes, even with large numbers. I will have to revisit this, but all I tried to do was maximize my 3D window and then render out with 30fps (usually). I'll give it another try, but it would be nice to be able to choose or specify the resolution.

Hi Eugene,

Indeed, the plugin simply uses the current screen resolution for now (but we could definitely use the same 'zoom' factor as the 'Render display' method because we use the same code).

And for the bitrate, you have to use quite huge values if I believe Youtube's suggestions (https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171).

And last but not least, you can change the output movie file extension (mpg, avi, etc.). The plugin will automatically change the codec based on this extension... I just don't know how the codec is selected! (+ it depends on the installed codecs on your machine). Anyway I bet all the codecs don't handle this parameter in the exact same way, and some will produce more compressed videos but with less quality.

I really need to test this on my 4k display :D I have been craving an EDL filtered 4k animation for some time now.

Eugene,

Daniel is right, it takes frames (screenshots) so it all depends on your screen I guess. I might have used a 30" for that particular video.

I use Cloud Compare frequently and this plugin is very useful for sharing quickly and nicely some work.
