New Dynamic Voxel compression technology from Veesus

Post by LucyT »

Hello all,

We have HUGE news!

This week we released our exciting new Dynamic Voxel compression technology.

Our new Dynamic Voxel compression technology enables you to shrink your point cloud data by up to 4000x! Meaning you can avoid time-consuming and complex meshing.

Please see the video below for an example, and please get in touch if you would like more information or a demonstration.

We hope you love this new release as much as we do!

Lucy :)

This is the new stuff that many people are moving toward.

Lucy:

You need some instructions so people like me can figure on how to operate it effectively.

I ran both the high compression and the voxel compression to see it there was any difference in the latest version.

Listed below are sizes of the vcp files which are significant, but they would not work on my iPhone 13 Pro as the high compression vcp files. Do I need a newer version of OIS? Load errors??? New version of app??

Apparently the Voxel Zappcha app will be released later this week.

Although the Veesus folks are still working on it, this has to be the best FREE product displayed for the 3D/lidar industry on LSF or anywhere, definitely in 2023. If you are not using their product(s) at their price point, you are not generating the business that you should.

The larger examples are not working yet, but the smallest created from:

4S-WAILEA = 10.76GB E-57 originally created to a 3.945 GB Zappcha high compression file (742.23 Mpts) on my iPhone 13 Pro Max is compared below to a 26.8 MB Zappcha voxel compression file (20.63 Mpts) also on the same iPhone.

COMPARISON HIGH vs VOXEL COMPRESSION.jpg

I am still testing on improving the voxel compression image.

I'm doing some testing too...
I see that if I enable the conversion to Voxel it brings the spacing to 200mm and I get a very cube-like cloud (Mincraft style), have you lowered this value to get good compression but at the same time good detail like in the promotional video?

According to Mark Christy of Veesus, the 200mm setting on the voxel compression with result in a fully zoomed sharpness of a 20cm block size. The best compromise for detail will be 5cm or 10cm voxel block size (50mm/100mm in the VPC Creator voxel setting).

Since the voxel format is more memory intensive, the iPhone will probably run out of memory if you pursue the finer sharpness detail. I have tried 50mm to 500mm voxel compression and found that a maximum of about 60MB to 70 MB file size is what the current pre-release app on the iPhone can process.

I have processed the three examples shown in the table above and can display them on my iPhone. The largest 4.186 Bpts can be viewed using voxel compression @ 400mm resulting in a Zappcha file size of 55MB displaying 41.1 Mpts.

Here is some additional testing at 25mm on smaller files

Original PJKK = 1.39 GB E-57
Zappcha high compression file = 231MB, 49.46 Mpts

PJKK ZAPPCHA HIGH COMPRESSION 49.46Mpts.jpg

Zappcha voxel compression @ 25mm = 7.4MB, 5.27Mpts

PJKK ZAPPCHA VOXEL @25mm 5.27Mpts.jpg

I guess it depends on what you are trying to accomplish, how much storage space on your iPhone. It will be very interesting to see how Veesus proceeds with this technology moving into the future.

Hi Dennis,

Thank you so much for your feedback, it is great to hear you are enjoying testing out our newest release!

We'll certainly keep you informed of any additional developments or updates as our voxel compression technology advances.
