Colin, why even open the model space just right-click then export to e57.

ColourCloud of course doesn't use a stitch engine at all. It uses the depth data from the scan to map each pixel accurately in 3D space which is why this produces panoramas without any stitch errors.

If you need a 100% stitch error free image, use a scanner and ColourCloud.

Phil, you're quite right. It's just a habit :) I like to take a peek at the modelspace...double-check I'm putting the right ones together

Just out of interest, if you compare the points used..

Andrej was asking earlier...difference of 2 points in 3.5 million.

You can also see the other options that ColourCloud offers.

and also the created pano image.

Colin,

What settings do you use in ColourCloud?

I keep trying them all...simply because it only takes on average 100s to create :)

I've run off a few more screenshots showing the 3 choices.
I think there are subtle differences....
copy pixels occluded.jpg
Interpolate and fill occluded.jpg
Transp occluded.jpg
and from a closer perspective....
copy pixels occluded2.jpg
Interpolate and fill occluded2.jpg
Transp occluded2.jpg
you can see slight differences in the chain-link fence, one gives a better view through the fence and also the number plate on the truck, though that isn't obvious on these re-sized images.

I'm sure I'll come across circumstances when one choice will favour another ;)

Sorry if these are boring but I'm limited in what I can show :?

Hi Colin,
Nice examples!
Quick question from me.
The screenshots you are presenting come from Cyclone and they show a scan coloured in external package. This means that the colour gets applied only to points actually in the scan. For this reason i struggle to understand how do you get the light dispersed around street lamps in the distance higher up? There should only be points there where the actual lamp post is and only there you should have colour? Or am i missing simething?

Hi

I had the same impression as Daniel, what why I assumed the E57 brings in the background photo.

Hi Dan, Andrej.....I had to scratch my head and check which settings I used.

You are both right in assuming it has used (in part) the panoramic image to produce the lens flare.

There are basically (as I understand it) two ways to colour the cloud....the default mode is scan point to pixel, so it is an accurate match and suitable for accurate measurements.
Higher the scan resolution you choose better the outputted e57 will look and retain its measurement accuracy.

I had selected "Coloured Scan with resolution matched to iSTAR resolution". In this mode, ColourCloud adds more points to the input scan and matches it with iSTAR resolution (10000 x 5000). It interpolates the missing scan point data with the image pixels. There are 3 options in this mode as shown in the screen grabs . Although this makes an ideal pointcloud for fly-throughs and visuals its obviously not ideal for detailed measurements.

I'm told it will 'fill in' mirrors and reflective surfaces that normally appear as holes but haven't tried that yet.

The scanner picked out the lamp-posts and heads easily as there was nothing but sky behind, the software added, interpolated the light and flare as it appeared in the image.

That's my understanding, however, I think it adds another dimension to the Cyclone view.
