Hi,
I finally made the purchase and i collected it yesterday.
What i want to do with this equipment:
-take random pictures for my current projects (ordinary surveying)
-colouring pointclouds -> scene and arena4d (on purchase list)
-agisoft integration
-i do some construction layout and to avoid discussions take pictures from the whole scene
-maybe trying to implement virtual tours for real estate agents
but first : do some testing...
Greetings,
Istar has arrived

Re: Istar has arrived
Is there any benefit to coloring SCENE pointclouds with the ISTAR vs using the standard color of the FARO X330 Scanner data capture?

Speed and difficult (darker) lightning conditions. Also the opportunity to take multiple images in crowded environments.

For a little more detail, if you are using lower resolution settings like 1/8 res then your scan times can be as low as 2 minutes depending on your quality setting. In these cases, the photos from the scanner take longer than the actual scans. So, on larger projects you can effectively almost reduce the total time by 40% by using an iStar to colorize the scans.
Of course, you can choose not to take color at all, but in the event your client wants it, you can do it very efficiently with the iStar.
Keep in mind that FARO does have HDR on their scanners now so if you are willing to wait the extra time, you can capture decent images even in difficult lighting situations.

Re: Istar has arrived
The update to HDR in the faro is going to be more expensive for me and i want to implement it in other areas as well. Not only scanning.
It's a lot of money but it's an investment for years to come. It will be standard in the truck from now on.
