Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply,
I had seen the creating customized Standard Tables, but the problem with some non-standard ibeams is that every single of them is different from another :). I think it would be very handy to have a scale option alongside the “Resize” button in the 2D window, so the user can create a new ibeam just on the fly and if needed store it in tables.

Regards
Majid

Thanks for your thoughtful assessment of EdgeWise. The clipping box is definitely a weak point--look for a completely revamped clipping box in early 2015.

On the non-standard steel issue...you can easily import a custom standard or create your own standard using our standards editor. Once the custom standard is completed, the software will best-fit structural members to the point cloud using the that standard, if you specify it. One of my support guys can walk you through how to do that if you need help.

Best,

Chris

Majid,

That's a great point. Creating custom steel sections should be easier than having to edit a standard. I like your idea of a "scale option" next to the resize tool in the 2D window - I'm putting it on the to-do list for an upcoming release.

Thank you for the suggestion - I can easily see that being a big help when dealing with a lot of non-standard steel.

I've been keen to try Edgewise and have requested twice via the form on their website, but no-one from the company has bothered to get back to me.

I believe Excitech are now uk resellers so you might find it easier to contact them for a trial.

Hi Kevin,

Edgewise is a real time saver as it preservers the quality!

I believe the scale option will make the steal work faster than it is.

Thanks
Majid

Brandon,

It was nice talking with you down at the Faro Conference last month, I was going to reach out to you but we've been busy with other projects.

We like using Clearedge as it really does help improve workflow but our biggest reservation has been the transition from Clearedge back into Revit. Too many of our projects are super old with really complicated fittings and imperfect conditions that lose their fittings and connections upon import back into Revit. That may be a Revit problem more than a Clearedge problem, but it just means a few more hours of clean up.

I've got your business card, I'll reach out to you so we can bounce things off each other!

It was great getting to meet you as well! As we spoke about before, I have the same issue you do. Without getting most of the extracted items to work in Revit, it makes me wonder why I waste the time to extract them in the first place.
