User Story. A Massive Lithuanian Government Building

Post by Aurelijus »

Hello LSF members,

I am sharing a recent UNDET user story about a laser scanning project for renovation of Lithuanian Government Building. The project is quit big - 2350 scan locations captured with FARO X330.
You can read it in our blog: http://www.undet.com/blog/renovation-of ... ser-story/

Let me know what you think

Nice job Aurelijus. What was the resolution of scan? Was it scanned at night/weekends?

Thanks Sarunas,

The resolution was 1/4 3x for outside scans and 1/8 – 1/10 3x for inside ones.

I think they scanned during the work days in the evenings mostly. Well the corridors were definitely scanned after working hours because of traffic. They don’t let inside on weekends and the surveyors were strictly supervised although one of them got to shake hands with the prime minister while scanning his room :D

It is a national security object after all… (Picture bellow)

Nice job, I am guessing that Undet was an awesome way to do it from their demo video? Is that like it auto models a lot for you or is it all old fashioned model it yourself in 3d? The product video looks quite impressive.

Thanks
John

Thanks John. Well yes and no. Undet provides both 2D and 3D workflows for as-built documentation and it has some really nice automated features but no “magic button” that does everything for you :) yet

The manual part is still inevitable for Measured Buildings and usually is even more productive then the full auto extraction. There are many reasons for this such as data quality/density, interior and exterior obstacles, you name it… But the ability to fully control your scan data and let’s say start to draw an elevation in just two clicks (Work plane is set automatically, point cloud density from decimated turned to full details flawlessly and other sweets) provides great efficiency.

On the other hand automated workflows work great on some specific 3D modelling tasks or extraction of irregular profiles for let’s say tunneling, bride modelling or structural steel. Give me a shout if you’d like try it by yourself. I can showcase online demo on your data and tasks.

Sarunas, indeed, no WebShare :)
