Removing overlaps

Post by alex@glanville »

Hi

I'm merging large data sets from both TX8 and Geoslam revo. In a nutshell I'm using the TX8 for above ground infrastructure and then using the REVO for the tunnels in between. I'm collecting 100% overlap of the TX8 data with the REVO to aid checks/registration etc. All this is good.

However, I am keen to remove the overlapping REVO data from the TX8 areas post registration, just leaving it in for the below ground areas where the TX8 has not been, whilst keeping the bits of REVO that fill in shadows in the TX8 data.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to go about this, without huge levels of manual intervention??

Thanks

Alex.

Easiest way I can think of to do this would be to segment the project point cloud into above and below ground clouds, you can then sample the above ground cloud 'by scan' and select all TX8 scans to create a new 'REVO-free' cloud.

Thanks for response.

Would this approach not loose the REVO data infilling shadows in TX8 above ground??

Yes, you would lose the REVO infill above ground. :?

As an alternative you could export the separate TX8 and REVO 'above ground' clouds to CloudCompare (.e57 export from TRW), and run a Cloud to Cloud Distance computation.

You could then split the REVO cloud on the basis of distance from the TX8 cloud, I guess you'd have an idea that all REVO points greater than 'x' distance from the TX8 cloud would be required as infill. The split cloud could then be saved as .e57 again and reimported to TRW.

Still a bit of manual intervention/processing to do, but less than trying to identify and delete overlap in the project cloud.
