multiple common words (ANDED) in one search should be valid

Post by SAttaya »

I was looking for a recent (I think) post that had the words {(scene OR FARO) and cyclone].

I know I would have gotten a lot of hits and was willing to wade thru them.

But, it seems I can't search for combined terms:
Scene Cyclone
because the two words are too common and not valid words to include in a search, so I end up with a null search string

Any suggestions.

The post had to do with what software people used - that's all I remember.

Any help would be greatly appreciated in finding the post (I tried google(ing) site:laserscanningforum.com (scene AND cyclone).

------------------------
on a side note, I understand eliminating words like: to, two, too, one, on, the, and, or, I
and even words shorter than three letters (so Z+F and Z&F get through), but I surely there aren't many posts with
multiple common words like SCENE CYCLONE.

Hi Steve,
I'd suggest you trawl through "General Chat" section as you're looking for combined manufacturers & registration software and these have their own dedicated sections.

Could this be the topic ? :

Happy hunting :)

I've noticed the posts that contain the words Scene and Cyclone can get rather interesting on here at times :D

I would like to make a request that if there are multiple common words (len > 2) and they are not in the list of (etc, the, and, etc) they form a valid search.

I suspect that means the indexing would have to change.

But it is not unreasonable to search for (Scene and 5.3) or (Scene and cyclone) to find an old post.

Maybe some of the frequent contributors would like to comment.

In this case the simplest solution is to use google. add site:laserscanningforum.com at the end of your search.
For instance:

Code: Select all

Scene 5.3 site:laserscanningforum.com
Massimo

Max,
I had tried +Scene +cyclone site:laserscanningforum.com because in the old days "+" required the term that followed the "+" [including things like +(scene OR max72) +5.3] to be present.
I was unaware that Google Search now uses "+" for Google+ pages, not to force a term to be ANDED.
Thanks, my google searches will be more productive ;)

Hi,

We've upped the common words threshold a little so it will return a few more search's. However, words like Faro and Cyclone are just too common and would overload the server if we increased this too far.

What was you trying to find so I we know how far to push this threshold?

Thanks,

Phil & Jason
