undulation computation?

Post by anamyslak »

Can you guys recommend software other than amberg tms that would allow to represent undulations on raster image (color coded)? I'm dealing with arched geometries (caverns). Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Have you tried 3D Reshaper or GEOMagic?

I would agree on Cloud Compare, works really well and yes, it's free!

I would highly recommend cloudcompare as well as GOM Inspect. Both are free. Cloudcompare is proabably easier to get up and running, but I have been using GOM Inspect for only a week and its meshing and analysis tools continue to astound me.

I'm going to give GOM Inspect a go.

I did download GOM Inspect and give it a quick go - only issue is finding the right format to get scan data into it. It doesn't really seem geared up for terrestrial data and seems to have no way of getting ptx/pts files in?

I think no way to import ptx, but pts should work in GOM.
When importing select ascii file
You can the create a template, and in case your file ghas normals you can get them in too..

Yep, tried that, but only have limited options for the ASCII layout - none of them seem to work. PTS is x,y,z,intensity and there is no template option for intensity as far as I can tell.

Gom ignores intensity and RGB (after all their scanner are not getting intensity nor color).
Simply select ingnore for the last field. If there are not suitable templates you can click edit on one, copy it (the original is locked) and adapt to suit.
