Can someone please, suggest how I might go about UN ROLLING a CONE
My project is to un-roll a cone at the bottom of a 18 meter tall Cyclone Device. I have tried Cloud Compare and Phil Nixon's - UNFURL app. with no luck.
I need to un-roll this and produce a report showing total area numerically above and below spec. I can do this with ease within PolyWorks once I have the CONE Developed out on to a flat plane.
Cloud Compare - CC Forum informs me that the CONE development does not work correctly at present.
UnFURLed Data from Phil Nixion's app - perhaps I have the orientation incorrect?

Maybe consider modeling the conical tank in 3D, and then fitting the pointcloud to it, and generating the 3D PDF deviation analysis report in Geomagic Qualify/Control/Verify (Whatever they're calling it these days).
The report will give you exactly what you're asking for without having to unfurl the surface or pointcloud for planar analysis.
I may be able to send you a sample report, I did some academic statistic analysis work with it a couple years back.

I don't understand why you're not applying the solution provided in image.
Anyhow, a working solution for the programmers (if you don't want to use open source solution or commercial solution)
1-write your own solution for 'conical projection'
or
2- cut your object in 10-20 cm multiple pieces and apply cylindrical projection , you can again use open source solution for that and combine these pieces.
