Re: Police seize '3D printed gun parts'
I think this story has been around for a while, obviously more to it than what we read.
But, what a load of ballistics! To think that a printed plastic gun would fire anything really dangerous seems ridiculous to me?
Toy makers have been making plastic guns for years, I have never really thought that it was a good idea to let children play with guns of any kind, even plastic, what is it teaching them?

If you don't see that there is nothing, then you are kidding yourself.

My tip is that even if someone does look a complete numpty, if they have a gun don't mention the fact!Matt Young wrote:Well that's just great then...

I expect it's some geeky kid play with his new Makerbot, rather than Al Qaeda attempting to overthrow the decadent west. Security stories always get good media attention and hardly a day goes by when a 3D printing article doesn't appear somewhere or other. Combine the two and you really have the ideal story!

People have been making zip guns and pipe guns for years now. Eventually, someone will design and build a very robust semi-automatic weapon by modifying the design to keep the gun from breaking apart.
There are a number of issues surrounding the ease of access, trace-ability and availability of online plans to manufacture of these weapons.

Lol, might be worth mentioning just to see it blow up in his face... which it almost certainly will.SteveBury wrote:My tip is that even if someone does look a complete numpty, if they have a gun don't mention the fact!Matt Young wrote:Well that's just great then...

From what I've read they really were just spare parts for the guy's Makerbot and the police were over-reacting to an 'anonymous tip-off'. At least no one else over-reacts to every event in this country (Steve looks out of his window to see light cloud and the leaves gently moving in the breeze and wonders what happened to the hurricane that the media have spent the last 2 days telling him was going to wreck his house and destroy life as we know it).

The wind was quite bad at my house, a plant pot actually fell over I'm thinking of writing in to the BBC to see if they will run a special program on the eventSteveBury wrote:From what I've read they really were just spare parts for the guy's Makerbot and the police were over-reacting to an 'anonymous tip-off'. Seriously though, I did see some very badly destroyed trees on my way to work and there has been some major distruption in certain areas.
