MS60 scan data

Post by MalteHC »

Hi guys

I just got the MS60 and tried scanning with it. This station is totally new to me and i have only been working with leicas totalstations before.
I tried to make a scanning, that went succesfully, now is my problem, how do i export this scan to an ascii file (XYZ RGB)? Cause when i try to do it from the remote, only the stationposition gets exportet, nor the point cloud! I can export the pointcloud to an .sdb file, but as far as i can read, it only can be importet to cyclone and i want to open the file in Meshlab.
Any advise?

Hi Malte,

You are not missing anything. The sdb (scan database) file on the MS60 (or controller) needs importing into office software such as Cyclone, or Leica Infinity or compatible 3rd party software first before exporting ASCII or PTS or E57 etc.

A MS50 or MS60 is usually supplied with Infinity unless Cyclone is already owned. I'm not aware of any free software to import the sdb.

Thanks for your reply. For what i know we did not get infinity, but i see no better option, than go out and buy cyclone, that will be able to do the job, right?

It ultimately depends on what you want now and in the future. Infinity is the companion software for MultiStations like the MS50 or MS60 as can edit and re-process total station raw data like station setups, target heights, codes, scans, images etc. Infinty is the hub also for GNSS and digital level data. If all you want to do is export ASCII for meshing, Infinity's Basic module will offer this as the most cost effective option. Infinity also has an optional meshing module.

I suggest you contact your MS60 supplier to arrange a trial of Infinity, Cyclone and 3DReshaper to decide what's best for you.

Infinity is more for DTMs rather than complex meshes. Infinity is not for 3D primitive solid object modelling.

Here's a nice video from our friends CR Kennedy in Australia on Infinity's surface tools here:

You can contact to your supplier for LISCAD, a software from LISTECH which can transfer from SDB to PTS, XYZ .... with more affordable price than Cyclone :D. They (Leica supplier) suggest me to use this.
