AutoCAD not handling RCP files (freezing and jumping around)
I do a lot of measured building surveys for residentail and commercial properties,
I use a Faro X330 to capture, Faro Scene to Process and Register And AutoCAD 2020 to Draught Plans, Sections & Elevations.
The problem I have is AutoCAD just not handling the poiuntclouds, it will work fine for a few days then all of a sudden it the pointcloud will start jumping around and crashing. I take all the precautions that I know about for example turning off scan locations I dont need using the point cloud manager, reducing the level of detail where I can afford to without affecting accuracy and cropping on the area I am working on at the time.
This is extremely problematic to me and costing a lot of time, Is anyone alse aware of anything I can do to improve the performance in AutoCAD?
Thanks
Jack

All you can do is to complain with them (Autodesk) on their forum and hope one day they will improve and update their damn ReCap software.
Meanwhile switch to another platform\format: I use Leica Cloudworx for AutoCAD.

Large coordinates in ACAD with point cloud absolutely has issues - osnap etc - that is well documented.
Local - hard to say - we typically use cloudworx, so haven't really noticed it. Imagine the usual applies - graphics drivers would be where I'd start. Nvidia? Try the studio drivers - they are more stable.

You should try Undet for AutoCAD. No problems with large point cloud files or very large coordinates systems. If you are using FARO webshare service you should check UNDET browser (https://youtu.be/yDOTDol_jcA), which helps you a lot.jackbidston wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 10:10 am

I have this morning downloaded a trial as someone else had mentioned it in another forum, But I can see absolutely no benefit unfortunately.

Re: AutoCAD not handling RCP files (freezing and jumping around)
If RECAP functions are more than enough in your daily point clouds to 2D drawings workflow, we have developed Undet with Ares Commander solution to significantly lower annual costs on CAD systems. 1-year license is only 750e and you will have all the necessary tools to prepare elevations, sections, and floorplans. In both plugins is an integrated UNDET database. With UNDET Indexer you can create UNDET point clouds project much faster than using Recap, and you will have full control of each file. https://www.laserscanningforum.com/foru ... 71&t=15814jackbidston wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 3:23 pm I have this morning downloaded a trial as someone else had mentioned it in another forum, But I can see absolutely no benefit unfortunately.
P.S.I found your download form, my colleague Andrius will contact you for a live demo, to explain the UNDET software concept (of course, if you will have free time).

How big is the point cloud you're working on?
We use Cloudworx with Jetstream for Autocad, Microstation and SP3D.
Might be a bit pricey depending on how much you use point clouds but so smooth with very large projects.

+1 for cloudworx. Was always the go to for 2D floor plans, sections and elevations
