Scanner Images to Recap "RealView" with Cyclone E57 file
We are exporting a project from Cyclone to an e57 file with our scanner images embedded. We would like to import that e57 into Recap and be able to see the images in the background of the "RealView" view. Several attempts to export/import have failed to generate the desired result. I am aware that Faro Scene users can achive this result; does anybody have a workflow for the same with Cyclone?

Re: Scanner Images to Recap "RealView" with Cyclone E57 file
Rob,
To achieve this I would have my final registration done in Cyclone;
- Open the final modelspace, and turn colour on. (I don't think having colour on makes a difference to E57 but i do it for good measure)
- Export to E57
- Create new project in ReCap
- Import E57 file
- I usually set my filtering options to aggressive but thats up to you. You get a lot of noise cleaned out this way
- Decimation, is up to yourself and your needs
- Then hit import, and I usually hit skip registration then straight away so I can walk away from it until its completed.
Even though ReCap likes to act up a lot and get progressively slower over time. My point clouds are always coloured at the end.
Hope this helps
Joe

Re: Scanner Images to Recap "RealView" with Cyclone E57 file
Hi Rob,
99% sure it isn't supported .. not the images - so no blue sky etc unfortunately.
You can export the E57 + images by right-clicking on the scanworld itself in the database tree .. and apparently the images are exported .. but I don't think Recap recognises them - been a while since I've tried that one.
The E57 from within the modelspace gets you points only as you have worked out.
The other "trick" - for some reason this export also goes way back to the original scans somehow - so even if you clean out each scan and set default scan world - the E57 export at root level somehow finds the original scan still .. at least it did a year or so ago when I last did it.

Not sure your problem, but this works for us all the time just as you want it to. So it IS possible to get colored bubble views from cyclone.
I used E57 from cyclone and index in recap.

When you export E57 from ModelSpace, Cyclone only exports points. It's by design. If you want to get both the scan and image, you need to export from ScanWorld or registered ScanWorld.
To get clean scans, you can clean up in the modelspace which contains all scans, and use the command "Set as Default Cloud" to replace ScanWorlds' scans with cleaned ones in the ModelSpace.

Re: Scanner Images to Recap "RealView" with Cyclone E57 file
But you don't get blue sky for example? Sky is black as there are no points there to colour. Faro users get the sky from my understanding - don't have a Faro so can't be sure.
And Yuelin, last time I tried this - I spent days cleaning and setting default etc .. I still ended up with the noisy scans. I never did get to the bottom of it - project went out - it was for a presentation and I didn't have time to export again and play around with it - and once done I never went back to suss it out. Seems to work fine for E57 out from within the scanworld. This would have been about 9.1.4 .. not sure if it was a bug back then, but have moved on!

Hi James,
This command was grayed out prior to Cyclone 9.1.6. It's enabled now. You can select all point clouds and run the command to apply cleaning to their original source scanworld.

Oh yeah that may be true.
