Animation From Recent Case

Post by ddustin »

Here is an animation we created for a recent case.
It was made using Clouds2Max to model the environment and Scan Data from LIDAR USA's Scanlook system.
A big thank you to Jeff and Daniel Faggerman for their help with this project.
If time allows, we will render out a higher resolution version.
The youtube compression took a lot of resolution out of the video.

Here is the re-rendered animation with additional views AND in HD resolution (make sure to watch it in HD).
It would have been a bigger challenge to model this without the ScanLook system..

Jiri,
It is the system created by Jeff and Daniel Faggerman.
Their site is here: http://www.lidarusa.com/

Excellent video David - have you done a version showing the actual impact/damage etc?

The ScanLook and 'mini' both look to be great bits of kit (wonder if there will be a 'nano' version? ;) ), but I haven't yet investigated the accuracy. Does it take colour, or is this why you've then modelled the whole scene in Max?

For example, I have customers using colourised mobile data in Forensic Map Pro and animated objects within the cloud.

Thanks for sharing.

Paul, great questions! Let me address each one.

for this case there was talk of doing post impact animation but it was pursued (client's decision). We have one now that I hope to be able to share by the end of the month that has post impact motion in it.

No idea on the "nano" version, but the Faggerman's are quite the innovators so who knows. We modeled the environment because we needed a specific lighting condition that would not have been as controllable with the scan data. We had taken our own aerial images to texture the road way. We certainly want to try on just using ScanLook data as it would save a lot of time modeling.

I'll check it out, thanks for the tip. I am very picky about the vehicle motion in our work and either it comes from a simulation package or we use some very high quality plugin's to assist us. There are a few other packages that allow you to animate in the pointcloud with vehicles (not listed by importance). Aras360, CrashZone, MapScenes, EdgeFX just to name a few.

BTW, I had the opportunity to use some C10 data a while back and the quality was excellent.
