Re: Coming Soon...Clouds2Max-VX
It's a shame that a lot of people are moving away from max these days. Autodesk just seem to do more harm than good with each new version...
But on the bright side, we now have blender to do what max did and way more.

If you don't see that there is nothing, then you are kidding yourself.

Re: Coming Soon...Clouds2Max-VX
Hi Matt,
Yeah, I have been really disappointed with Autodesk and how they have hosed me over the years. More money and less features I really need. I looked at Blender a long time ago and was sort of turned off but optimistic about it. Do you know if point cloud import is possible? I saw some people hinting at this but never saw a smooth workflow.
One benefit here is that our plugin can be ported to other Autodesk products and I can see some benefit if you could bring in billions of point in Revit or AutoCAD. Much bigger market than Max users alone.

Re: Coming Soon...Clouds2Max-VX
If you're looking for a new platform have you considered Houdini? We're moving a lot of our work to it and even without much in the way of native "lidar" tools it offers a lot of possibilities. It looks like you're in Toronto so SideFX is just down the road. I would love to see more integration for the type of data we deal with.3DForensics wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 1:13 pmYeah, I have been really disappointed with Autodesk and how they have hosed me over the years. Re: Coming Soon...Clouds2Max-VX
Max has a lot more users than Houdini but even Max is trumped by AutoCAD and other software programs with millions of users worldwide. We have also had requests to implement VRay compatibility.
I think first we need to get out of beta and then see what the general feedback is like. I can't imagine anyone not wanting to be able to fully load their entire project with hundreds of millions or billions of points to work with.
Thanks,
Eugene

I'd like to see this Eugene, we're using Jetstream (Euclidean technology) right now, but we're in the ACAD full Suite of Design software3DForensics wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2019 4:13 pm Max has a lot more users than Houdini but even Max is trumped by AutoCAD and other software programs with millions of users worldwide. Because blender is open source there are all kinds of possibilities.3DForensics wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 1:13 pm Hi Matt,

Eugene - Is this currently possible or is it something that may happen in the future? I'd like to take a look at this in Civil 3d if it works now.3DForensics wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 1:13 pm

Re: Coming Soon...Clouds2Max-VX
Hi Brian,
We are working on getting this working in Max first and then once we release (and depending on feedback from customers), we'll decide where to go next, but since it is already in an Autodesk product, I can see it being ported elsewhere.

Speaking of inventiveness...you are no slouch yourself
I can still remember the first time I saw clouds to max and my amazement with the lack of point cloud decimation while dynamically rotating and moving the view around. There is an extreme lack of this feature in all point cloud software I currently utilize...is it still this way? I must download this beta to feel that sensation again

Re: Coming Soon...Clouds2Max-VX
Jonathan,
The latest beta kicks ass. You can load billions of points in your project in Max with ZERO performance hit. I am still amazed myself. Like all software, we're trying to work on some of the rendering bugs and issues but a production version is slowly making its way out. I keep thinking of all the AutoCAD and Revit users who might benefit from something like this...just a matter of time.
Thanks!
Eugene
