Coming Soon...Clouds2Max-VX
Hello All,
I am rather excited about our alpha of Clouds2Max which is taking performance to a whole new level. Below is an image with 100 point clouds of roughly 167 Million points each. Works out to about 16.7 Billion points. I also just tested a point cloud that was almost 600 Million points...like butter.
No need to decimate the point cloud any longer!
Look for more in the coming weeks...

Re: Coming Soon...Clouds2Max-VX
what rendering engine do you use? i used to use Mental Ray, but now i use Arnold with pretty good success. have some lighting/environment issues every once in a while though.
so are those pclouds instances?

Scanline and Mental Ray are the two supported right now. There are options for others in the future. We have been asked about VRay on a few occasions.

Re: Coming Soon...Clouds2Max-VX
what is the cost of this program?
i could never figure out how to get scanline to work with pointclouds.
it seems like it would make the most sense to use.
what are the benefits to using this add on as opposed to just going directly into Max?

Re: Coming Soon...Clouds2Max-VX
There will be a new cost structure for the VX program so we'll get that out shortly. Will also be an upgrade path but standby for more information on that.
Basically, the benefits are that you can now use a much larger point cloud of billions of points, you can animate and render in Scanline and Mental Ray, and you can also edit the point cloud (delete and hide) and use tools like the spline extractor. To be honest, the point cloud looks much more solid and doesn't have any flickering like you see in most animations so you can even screen capture a recording and it looks great! Shadows and lighting aren't working right now but it is something we will get to as well. You can also currently re-export what you have in case you made edits.
More to follow in the coming days...

this is why i use max for animating against point clouds. other software likes to flicker.3DForensics wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2019 4:04 pm To be honest, the point cloud looks much more solid and doesn't have any flickering like you see in most animations so you can even screen capture a recording and it looks great! this seems pretty promising. typically i turn off the shadows/lighting against clouds when using Arnold in Max, its buggy if you are animating 1000 frames. i will keep my eyes open for more info on this release. thanks.

Having an import of LAS format would be helpful, especially for large files.

Re: Coming Soon...Clouds2Max-VX
This is possible Dennis, we plan to add many popular formats. We are just so behind, I decided to pull the trigger on the beta to get it out there. If we can nail down the performance, then other items should not be as difficult to tackle.
