Mesh to PC Comparison
Can you actually compare a mesh to a point cloud in 3DReshaper as unless i'm missing something it seems it can only do mesh to mesh comparisons.
The problem is that the point cloud I have can be a bit thin in some areas due to site constraints meaning the conversion of the point cloud to a mesh is poor.
Any thoughts on a workflow?
Andy

Re: Mesh to PC Comparison
Hi Andy,
Yes can compare a point cloud to a mesh. Just select the mesh and cloud then compare the two items.

Re: Mesh to PC Comparison
That's what I assumed. Imported a point cloud and also imported design model. Select both but the Compare/Inspect option under Measure is greyed out - what am I missing?

Re: Mesh to PC Comparison
I confirm what Phil said.
Could be that you have more than only one cloud selected (or more than one mesh)...
If it is the case, you'll need to merge the clouds together before running the command (Cloud/Merge).
In order to check, you can see what is selected from the tree view.
Hope this helps

Re: Mesh to PC Comparison
Thanks Gilles. My thoughts are at the moment that the issue is with the design model. Is there a specific format the model needs to be in. I'll check but I think its AutoCAD solids.

Re: Mesh to PC Comparison
By curiosity, can you select the object you import from AutoCAD in reshaper, and then show the properties (right click / Properties). And copy/paste here the properties of the component?

Re: Mesh to PC Comparison
We found the problem with Andy.
It comes from the imported object. It is not possible to compare a Set of polylines to a point cloud.
We need to have a surface model. So Andy was trying a different format to export and import his model, like OBJ.
Regarding DWG data, it is possible to import 3DFaces inside 3DReshaper and get a surface model. But this depends on the type of data and on the software used to export it.
If some of you are facing the same kind of problems, try other formats like OBJ, STL, IGES.
