Clash Detection of 3D Solid

Hey Folks,

I'm trialing 3DR for a project, looking for some help after hitting a wall. I have an IFC 3D solid, and I want to locate any Points that fall within that solid. I've tried the comparison tools (cloud vs CAD), but it seems to look at the points nearest the shell/faces of the 3D object.

-Is there a way to segment cloud by 3D solid?
-Is there a way to clash detect the 3D solid vs the cloud (highlight any cloud points that fall within the 3D Solid)?

Your instructions were easy to follow and worked as I had hoped. Thanks for the help! This is exactly what I was trying to do. Ended up using an STL out of AutoCAD, and it worked pretty well.

Hi Scott,

First, thanks for being interested in 3DR !

Cyclone 3DR provides some tools to detect clashes between 3D solid (from IFC model for example) and a point cloud.

-Is there a way to segment cloud by 3D solid?
To segment the cloud, here is a workflow: Select the 3D solid and the point cloud >>> Then you can go the CLEAN menu and launch the SEPARATE ON BOTH SIDES command >>> Points in a 3D Solids will be separated from the one out of any 3D solids.

-Is there a way to clash detect the 3D solid vs the cloud (highlight any cloud points that fall within the 3D Solid)?
A workflow which should fits what you expect from your second question: Select the 3D solid and the point cloud >>> Go to the ANALYSIS menu >>> Launch the CLOUD VS CAD INSPECTION command >>> Define the maximum searching distance and launch calculation with PREVIEW for example (Make sure you color the measure data: the point cloud). You can then EDIT COLORS of the gradient and define a gradient with STEPS (with for example 1 step set to 0 so that every points clashing are blue and every points out of clash are red for example or more steps for more colors). When it’s done, select the inspected point cloud and launch the INSPECTION STEPS in the CLEAN menu, which will split the inspection in several clouds (one cloud per step of the gradient).
