Why not Recap? It's free and fairly easy to navigate. As long as the don't update the origin they shouldn't be able to do any damage.

Would Autodesk's Navisworks Freedom 3D viewer work for you? We've used it to share data with our engineers. See link below, good luck!

that may be a valid option.
if you append in the rcp's, publish an nwd, make sure "embed recap and texture data" is checked.
