There are too many booths and categories to see, and talk with everyone at CES 2016. Since I only had two days there I focused on 3D printing, VR and AR, and lidar.
Since I mentioned the solid state lidar that I saw with the Mercedes Benz, I thought that I should at least mention the contact information so anyone with extra time can check it out.
Quanergy (http://www.quanergy.com) has a TOF lidar, with a range of 450 feet, class 1, at 400Kpps, for US$6,500 and weighs 900 grams.

Re: CES 2016
I assume that is their M8-1? Or are those specs fo the solid state, S3??
1m pps for $250?

[Edit]
I see the IEEE article had more, including the Merc.

+/- 5cm @ 100m is probably ok for cars, wouldn't mind something a bit tighter! Would be certainly interesting for short range stuff, multiple sensors simultaneously, walking through a building for example. My hard drive just ran out of the building ..

Re: CES 2016
Sorry for the confusion. The specs are for the M8-1
range accuracy, (1 sigma at 50m) less than 3cm
angular resolution, 0.03-0.2 degrees, dependent on frame rate
sensors, 8 sensor/detector pairs
FOV, 360 deg horiz, 20 deg vert (+3 deg/-17 deg)
nominal power, 18W
voltage, 24VDC
dimensions, 102mm diamX 86mm height
output, 1 Gbps ethernet
Data output, angle, distance, intensity
return, 1 return @ 400Kpps
It seems that they are looking at the security market place or other niche mapping applications that do not require high survey grade precision.

Re: CES 2016
The line at CES 2016 for Oculus Rift was too long to waste the time.
But this was interesting
