Re: Ooops
Oh dear...
I've seen one of these iStar's in action, and they are cool. But I'm interested in what benefit they have over (for example) a laser scanner panorama.
Is it a cheaper alternative? Or, a better alternative?
Can the iStar panoramas be linked together somehow?

I find the unit a versatile tool in my box of tricks when I go to RTC's.
Originally, we had it as a package from Leica with our C10. It came with an adaptor so the lenses matched the height of the C10's camera...scan with the C10 then swap the scanner with the iSTAR and take a panorama. The idea being to use that to colour the scan ( have a Faro one too ).
Nice idea, but we found messing with texture editor in cyclone awkward. The C10 colourisation is good enough for my use. The iSTAR as a 360 camera is very impressive.
Teething problems early on but now after firmware updates it's a great bit of kit. I use it by walking through the scene taking pano's...I even put it into vehicles, damaged and undamaged and underneath them too..! ( feel free to check my twitter or other postings here on the forum ).
We can link them using pano2vr and add extras like video and digi images of relevant objects etc.
I have uploaded linked panos in 'A Walk in the Park' via etours which is free hosting.
The pano's aren't meant to replace scans. Scans are totally different subject matter but I am experimenting with using the iSTAR for photogrammetry measurements which I think will work well.
Not sure where you are but as with any one on this site, I'm approachable and may be able to meet up at some point.
Colin.
PS...found out today at a bump that the iSTAR is one tough cookie...I bounced it off the Tarmac from 3'
a little scuff on the case but no other damage and works fine...phew
