Volumes of Objects in RiScan
Hello, Im trying to create a volume of a Object in RiScan. Is this even possible in RiScan or do I need to transfer my object into another program?

Tyler,
You can measure volumes in a few different ways in RiScan. They all use a mesh (either a previously-created one, or one will be created during the volume measurement procedure).
Volumes are calculated to a plane. You can create a user-defined plane in a few different ways too (see the RiScan help file - a simple way is co-planer with the X/Y plane). Drop this plane into the Object View (3D view) along with the points you want to measure (these must be PolyData). Select the area of interest, right-click in the view and choose Measure > Volume & Surface Area.
The are four calculation methods:
- raster (quickest but least accurate - creates a raster on the plane and measures the combined volumes of columns created from each point down to the plane)
- raster + triangulation (creates a mesh and measures the volume of the mesh down to the plane)
- use existing surface
- raster (mesh) (used for Cut and Fill calculations)
The help file has good notes about all the available options.
Ticking the option "Create volume(s) as triangulated mesh" creates a watertight mesh (with a flat bottom) showing the calculated volume.

Thanks for the speedy reply, and you are right. But I am trying to get a volume for a completly round object for example a apple. The only way I and some people at Riegl usa know how to do this is by selecting a plane in the center of the object, volume one side then inverting the plane and running the volume function on the other side. The problem with this is if the object is not able to extend to the plane it creates a solid straight thru without curving on the outside...Does this make sense? Ill have to post pics a little later if you need. Thanks
