Latest version of ScanMaster
"The latest version of ScanMaster improves the software operators' experience," said Scott Langbein, senior product manager. "They can manipulate larger data sets, faster. With its operator-friendly interface, the user can become more proficient and productive. Data can be easily manipulated so projects can be completed more quickly."
Culling features have been added to the new version to provide the user with greater rendering control. The frustum culling feature is designed so that only visible point clouds sections will render. An optional occlusion culling feature will render point cloud sections that are partially visible or fully obscured at lower resolution or not at all.

Re: Latest version of ScanMaster
Hi Alexander
It works exactly as you would expect.
The idea is that for topo features then the control codes such as "arc start" or "end" or "Line start" as defined in TopSURV are recognised and dealt with correctly by ScanMaster.

Windows 7 and Scanmaster
I just successfully upgraded our scanning laptops that were blighted with Windows Vista, to Windows 7 Ultimate.
The upgrade was seamless and I'm pleased to report that:
Scanmaster - works OK (maybe faster)
Imagemaster Pro - works OK
Pointools View Pro - works OK
Edgewise - works OK
Our main problem with Vista was wifi linking to the scanner which worked fine in XP. This too seems to now be working 100% of the time.

Re: Latest version of ScanMaster
It takes hours for our version of SM to export a PTX file. Does the new version address this? If I paid the 2K
for the new version and it still took forever to get a PTX file, I would be.... well, not happy.

Re: Latest version of ScanMaster
does this mean that the original version did not have frustum culling? thats bad news for a point cloud engine
like the occlusion cull though, its tough to get good results with points. I wrote a occlusion cull in 2002, but it used too much CPU to give much benefit (performance was about the same with or without it). With fast multi-core CPUs now and shoving it only the GPU, it'd probably work quite well...maybe I'll go dig around some old harddrives or just get our genius phd graphics developer to re-write it...

How big your point cloud? How many points you try to export?Alan Chavers wrote:It takes hours for our version of SM to export a PTX file. Does the new version address this? If I paid the 2K

Basicly it looks like much more fast program, then before.

Hi Alan, I believe this issue is addressed in SM2.Alan Chavers wrote:It takes hours for our version of SM to export a PTX file. Does the new version address this? If I paid the 2K

I echo Alexander's question regarding size of the pointlcoud though, can you upload the data somewhere for us or your local support to take a look at?
