Not sure of any others at the moment, but have done similar stuff myself with ZBrush. In fact I have done quite a lot of CD cover art in the hope that I would meet someone one day who would publish some, using 3DS, ZBrush, Poser, PhotoShop etc. Bit of a hoby really. I will post some here soon.

Here is some work I did some years ago, with a view to using them as CD art.

Thanks Sean - a few seconds of fame. Yay!

What was interesting about that project is that they were interested artistically in aspects of scan geometry that we usually remove as errors, like spikes. Sometimes a nicely cleaned-up scan isn't exactly what people want.

It is always interesting when ask to do the opposite to what is the norm. I was recently asked to show a scene of crime but they wanted lot's of people in it so they could make a 3D print of the scene with the noise. Forensic Architecture. New one on me but the results were amazing.

@stevenramsey

What do you mean a 3D print with the "noise"? Do you simply mean the capture of people in the scene? Is there any way to see the results of something like that?

I thought that was what you meant, but can never be sure.

Looks almost like a piece of art. Very nice and thanks for posting the image!

These guys had a very artistic approach to the whole project, the whole forensic Architecture was a fascinating approach to forensics, where they are using the buildings and there context to the crime scenes. They have had some good success in Europe convicting War criminals and wanted to show how scanning can capture any scene and show it as a snap shot in time with out "drawing" it. They were also very keen to use scan data to look through grass and start seeing how they can see the subtle changes to the topography of the land for mass graves etc. Similar to the work Paul has posted up in the archeology arena.

I'm not sure how that would work in a court of law by to trying alter or to put in place something that wasn't originally there...

However, as a demonstrative piece it certainly works. I can also see something like that for use in natural disasters, building collapses and the like. Very useful model to have in front of you when you are trying to get a point across.
