This RSV is really more for offshore work! Not nearly as manuverable as Jobling Purser's design but very rugged and it impresses the clients....

Re: Leica HDS6000 on RSV
It always pays to be prepared for anything.... plus the guns keep the birds away.
Actually we are currently scanning only parts of the ship. In the picture above, we are only after the top of the turret below us. The whole project is of the exterior and interior turret, barbette, & handling rooms, essentially the "whole gun" above and below decks.
We also are working on the steering and rudder rooms and associated gear. Fun Stuff!
btw, the laser does not like the blue paint on the turret at all! We are going back with a truckload of talcum powder and reshoot it.
you can see some interim work here:

Hello Richard,
I like 3D scan, because it is one job which give you the opportunity to go on extraordinary place. So, you are a lucky man. I would like to do some kind of application.
I'm just surprise that you have the right to do communication on such military "gun" !
About the blue reflectivity, what feed backdo you have exactly ? Only few points, hole in the perpendicaular direction... ?

Re: Leica HDS6000 on RSV
Hi, sorry for the delay in getting back on the forum. The paint is supposed to help obscure the ship so I guess its no suprise it does. The net effect is as if the effective distance is reduced. Fall off of points occurs much faster. For example, the laser should have no problem picking up the conning tower in the back ground of the photo, however only picks up a few points.
This effect is worse on the metal parts of the ship as opposed to the wooden deck.
I would not put all this in the "problem" category, just the "interesting, scratch your chin one"
We are going to try a scan in the early morning to see if the moisture helps out.
Best

Yes, dark glossy paint is a big problem for hds6000. I would recommend to try to scan it in the deep night. Maybe it'll help a bit
