I'm actually interested in the original sculpture, is it carved from wood? If it is then I aspire to be that good at wood carving one day.
If you don't see that there is nothing, then you are kidding yourself.

No, Matt. It's actually cast from aluminum. I had a bear of a time removing reflection points. Lots of zooming in, rotating, and cutting of stray points....
I have so much to learn. I basically want to be able to scan a sculpture, mesh it into a solid view, and then have it on a free viewer as a deliverable product. I'm getting close....

Have you tried the qPoissonRecon (Poisson Reconstruction) plugin? Otherwise the 2D1/2 Delaunay reconstruction is clearly not meant to be used on such clouds.
And for the Poisson Reconstruction process, you'll need good normals first

Ok, thought it might be - I am always trawling the net for ideas to carve things and see a lot of amazing sculptures like that. I know carving seems a little old fashioned when we have 3d printers these days... I just like to be old fashionedJeffc1qps wrote:No, Matt. It's actually cast from aluminum. I hope you continue to achieve some good results with what your doing.

daniel, I have tried the Poisson setting, but it just draped the whole area around the eagle with a mesh. the mesh on the eagle parts looked good, but the added curtain around it was bad. I did the set normals setting on Cloud Compare, but again, i'm not trained for this as of yet and i'm just clicking to see what happens. lol

It's definitely an algorithm that is a bit hard to tame. You'll need very clean normals, and you'll also need a closed shape (i.e. points all over the surface, not on one side only).
Anyway this algorithm and much more others are also available in Meshlab for instance (which is better suited for the job, as its name indicates ... contrarily to "Cloud"Compare .

Yeah, i realize i'm using it a bit out of it's context. Thanks for the help!

Re: SCANNING/MODELING SCULPTURES,STATUES,ETC.
So, i've loaded and attempted MESHLAB. I'm getting an error that says 'Opening Failure'. Support is just forum search it seems like. Anyone want to point me in a direction I can find information? Thanks.
