Hello All,
I was retained by a legal firm for a civil litigation. Normally my clients are from the AEC industries.
My new client prefers a simplified non-technical 3D model of an accident scene, instead of representing in point cloud.
After some research, I believe that 3DS Max would be the way to go for 3d visualisation, instead of CAD programs.
Could someone from the Forensics/CSI industry comment on their choice of 3D visualization software for accident scene illustrations ?
Thank you and your input is much appreciated.

Hi George
Spotted your article.
Have you looked at Spheron technology? I know it’s used around the world by many Polices forces, Fire depts and Forensic investigation teams.
Weblink to the Spheron site is here, https://www.spheron.com/products/forensics.html
Here is their system busy in use only last week (as featured by STERN news article). http://www.stern.de/panorama/stern-crim ... 54894.html
Hope that helps,
Regards, Huw

Hi George,
I would recommend these two programs: Faro Crash / Crime Zone and/or Faro Reality.

It really comes down to what level you want to present the information.
Reality will do a good job quickly and the learning curve is not too bad (but pricey, particularly for a single use).
3DS Max is going to produce a more photo realistic result (and is cheaper) but has a much steeper learning curve.
Above all, you need to have a crash reconstructionist verify your work is consistent with his opinion.
Unless you are trained in Crash Reconstruction, I would avoid taking this on with just the instructions from the law firm.
Just a few examples of cases we have worked on. David

Huw, Piotr and Dustin -
Thank you for the quick responses. I am quite impressed with your work and gave me appreciation of what forensics people do.
Fortunately, my task doesn't involve with spectacular crashes. It is far less dramatic involving a 4-legged pooch and a 2-legged earthling.
I get the impression that FARO is quite up to speed with supporting the forensics market segment.
Peace on Earth !

Hi George,
Please check out our software Arena4D http://www.veesus.com. I will be biased so will try to avoid sounding like a sales pitch, but our software is in active use with police and forensic forces around the world as well as in Universities and Colleges training in this field. I think you'll find it's extremely price competitive. Please see our website for more details and if you want a trial version of the software along with a quick guided tour to get you going please don't hesitate to get in touch either through here or our website.
BTW, we have lots of videos on our tutorials section showing lots of different areas of the software. Here are some of the animation ones:

Most important question...what are you actually delivering to him? Animation? Virtual Model? Still images of the scene with measurements overlaid on a Police drawing?
As David said, 3ds Max is kick ass but it means you will have a steep learning curve. The FARO and Veesus solutions may give you just what you need with a quicker learning curve.
