Very cool Eugene!

It would also be interesting to do a fitting operation in CoudCompare between this type of data set, which is the most easily obtained from a crime scene, against a laser scanned data set with a Cobalt scanner or some similar piece of tech of the actual shoe ware used to create the impression.

Hi Mike,

Actually, I have done this with the FARO Arm and the latest LLP head. There are a lot of issues surrounding the quality of the print and distortion issues but the method is sound and valid in my opinion.

Thanks Eugene,

I still run PM2013 where meshing and texturing can take a lot of time. Well I use it mostly with pointclouds from a laser scanner, for which it is not originally intended, but it still does good job. Glad to hear they are making progress!

You should write the guys at PhotoModeler and see if you can try out the latest beta. They've made some cool advancements.

This is the result with Pix4d, default settings.
I'm uploading the laz pointcloud and the mesh (obj, ply and 3d pdf).

Nice models guys! Actually it's becoming quite a famous bootprint. Is the snow now melting Eugene? You can carry on with deformation monitoring analysis :D

Well, I am now in a short sleeve shirt outside, it's sunny and tomorrow it's going to 18°C. I guess I am back to footprints in dirt.

This is really neat - although you might now be the subject of a forensics investigation ? Your chances of killing anyone in the snow and getting away with it have diminished, until you buy new boots.

Seriously though - Photoscan is awesome and only seems to just get better and better. Great for when you are on a job and suddenly realise you need to scan something, but don't have your scanner.
