I am hoping someone can give me some insight or suggestions on the following. I am a newbie with point clouds and this is the first one I have worked with.
We received a large point cloud file (.e57) of a helical concrete structure (parking ramp). It was scanned with a Faro scanner (by someone not experienced in the construction industry). I imported the file into Tekla (a Timble product) but all I have is a nice picture. It's basically impossible to work with inside Tekla.
Is there a software that can be used to turn the point cloud into surfaces/planes/meshes/objects and then exported to DWG/DXF relatively easily? I could then import the DWG/DXF into our Tekla software and have a better reference model to work with than the original point cloud.

Recap Pro is probably your best bet. It will take in the .e57 file, convert it into an .rcp or .rcs file, which you can then throw into Autocad. I personally don't like Recap for registering and linking multiple set-ups, but if you just want to get scan data into Autocad, then it works pretty well.

You can convert pointcloud to mesh (3dFace) by 3dreshaper, cloudcompare or Design X then open by autocad

You can import it as Recap into Revit and model it. We can do that if you want.

I'd be interested in hearing more about rates and whatnot. I assume after modeling in Revit, it could be exported in IFC or DWG/DXF format. Shoot me and email. josh @ woodelldetailing.com

@JoshBellows Our EdgeWise software has the ability to create meshes automatically from the point cloud and then export as a DXF. We've done parking garage projects in the past. Please just shoot me a message if you want to discuss.
