I need some suggestions

Post by Alan Chavers »

I am not having any success getting plant work for our scanner. I think we would do a good job as
I have some pretty good technicians and experienced party chiefs. We are a pretty reputable survey firm with oil patch experience in the past and large clients like the Corps of Engineers and others. We have all the insurance coverages we should need, TWIC cards, two years scanning experience, etc. Our only problem is getting our foot in the door for plant work. We have come close several times but the projects were axed by upper management who don't understand scanning and won't listen or because we weren't on the "approved vendor" list even though none of them have scanning capabilities. I have tried to market to engineering firms who do plant work and get on vendors lists for the plants. Both are difficult to do without an "in" such as an employee or someone high up the food chain going to bat for you. We are in South Mississippi and there are numerous refineries and plants all around. I'm drying up in the middle of a lake. Any suggestions?

What scanners are you using?

Most EPCs we work with will stipulate phase based scanning. in addition they most likely will already be using some laser scanning software and don't take to kindly to the idea adding another.

Even if the software is potentially way better than what they have! Its hard to convince some clients...

Hi, is difficult trying to " get in the business " i have a company in mexico very close to the oil industry and there are a lost of companies trying to make some scan projects. The problem is the inexperience, however we have a lot of experience making different projects in mining, oil, even heritage an architecture. So we need to make some strategic alliance with this another companies, because they have the contracts, and sometimes is not the best choice. I think you have to wait and try to find a partner outside. Maybe you can development new models more chipper. Im using now a free software from a video game graphic motor, and the result is beautiful

you can see on this video

this making possible for us to work in offshore installation

Stop selling scanning and sell your companies caperbilities. scanning is the means to the end, can you offer them the deliverables your clients require, scanning may be the way to deliver them.

Have you looked a SolidWorks and SolidWorks Routing? NOVAMECH has been scanning for some 2 1/2 years now and had some success with using Cyclone and SolidWorks to create semi (it depends how intelligent your client wants) piping systems.

It’s a work in progress for us and given the right resources we could perfect this. We have exported IsoKey data to Auto pipe for stress analysis. Pretty much any information required can be imbedded into individual parts within you design library. Planning is the key. But a goal posts often move it can be challenging

We have a number of projects pending that we hope to use our system on. If you would like to talk about this of need more information. Please, contact me a NOVAMECH.

Hello every one, I'm making projects for specific application in maintenance, however as someone says, i complicated because a lot of software is for specific task, so a lot of industrial application are not completed, and I'm agree tieh the guy who ay that scanning is not the finish work is only a tool to make a fast survey, however the time to make a draw is the same.

I want to show you a very new project for maintenance, but is confidential, i have to change a little stuff to present but is very versatile, because we construct the interface for the user and the real needs of the plant.

Even we are making submarine scans, and all the information is process with cyclone. This is for offshore plants

But the idea is.. What we need to sell? what software we need to use??? because the actual software every day is more expensive and more useless. For example AVEVA PDMS is extremely expensive and this is a design software, ok you can found some "as-built" models but i think is not for that, is for design..

If you want to know more about this topics, using different softwares (open source) please send me a PM
