I thought I would give the demo a try but unfortunately I can only load pointclouds.

Ideally I would like to try and extract pipes from the point cloud.

I emailed ClearEdge and said that I was extremely interested in their software and would seriously like to try a demo of the pipe extraction :)

They have not replied for three days :(

That's not good. They might be too busy with the Spar conference here in Houston.
I had a demo from them which was most impressive. And the results can be exported to coe. The whole thing is a bit of a black box concept though. You push a button and it models all these pipes automatically. You can't query them or get any statistical info on them.

Still no reply

Well I wont be considering the software in the future now! Imagine if I ever needed their support I would not get it....

Bad show ClearEdge.

This looks really interesting.

Not sure people will trust it at first, but a few QA checks against some manually modelled piping should get people 'believing.'

Shame they haven't got back to you Matt.

I have been contacted today by the team at ClearEdge who applogized for this. They did not receive the email as they were in fact busy at the SPAR Conference. I am going to go ahead and look at a more in depth demo shortly.

I was offered an online demo with some of our data but I really prefer to test these things myself. Im sure that the software is very good and when a more detailed demo/trial is available then I will give it a go.

You can download the demo from the website. If you use your own data you are limited to only two scans and 700,000 points per scan. In the full version Each scan is limited to 3 million points, I assume you can load as many scns as you want.

Pro
I believe this is the first time anyone has given a go at automatic pipe modeling, Clearedge has done it with the creation of Topo and architectual items.

Con
Since we could only two scans with limited points imported I did not see a big advantage over modeling manually. There was lots of setup time and I could tell there was a lot of cleanup once you imported the pipes back into cyclone. I didnt like the fact that there was or I could not find an Undo button. Once I move pipe and it snapped to the wrong object I could not easily go back a step.

I should give the guys at Clearedge a call and see if they can show me the process on a full version through a web demo.

I will be keeping an eye on this software since it is the first version of automatic pipe modeling, probably in a version or two it will be a software I wouldent be able to live without.
